Part of the power of the Challenge is that it gives people like you a chance to learn about the challenges people on food stamps face, and then to educate others and to take action to make the world a bit better.
Here are a few ideas for how you can take action in your community:
- Talk to a local food bank 0r social service agency to arrange a tour of their facility to learn why food stamps are so important.
- Organize a post-Challenge forum so people in your community can share what was easy and what was hard for them.
- Plan a press conference before the challenge so that the media sees who is taking the challenge.
We’ll be adding to these ideas as the challenge moves forward. How about you? What suggestions do you have for actions? Share your ideas by leaving a comment below.

One thing I plan to do is to take photos of my regular week’s shopping bag (and dollar amount) and my Challenge shopping bag to show how much different the Challenge food is from my everyday fare.
Nice plan, Chuck!
I definitely am trying to e-mail/post a link to this site to as many people as I know to encourage them to try it out. Even if they aren’t interested in taking the challenge, a few friends have gone “Wow, I never realized that before. I could never make a $1 meal!”
Just telling them that the challenge exists can open people’s minds.
